The heat has set in and every plant on the farm is thriving…including the weeds! We are reaching a fever pitch of work from mulching our tomatoes with hay (yes hay, not straw, we harvest it from our land), weeding, planting, and harvesting. The farmers market in Greenpoint is moving along and we are establishing some new connections with local restaurants. Soon to come will be our “Vegetable Share” for local delivery.
Summer has arrived and our onions planted in the Spring are starting to size up. We like to harvest continually as they grow to accompany the rest of the vegetables we grow. Use the whole onion, including the greens, for the fullest flavor.
We have some wonderful beets available. Red, Candy Striped, and Gold beets have subtle taste differences. Saute the the tops, roast the root, and add some goat cheese for a great meal.
